New Westminster Culture Crawl at The Art Department - October 15, 16 2022

We are happy to announce our participation in the New Westminster Culture Crawl for the 2022 Year. We have reached out to our friend Mark Johnsen, a teacher at Emily Carr, and he’s introduced us to a number of amazing and talented artists who make up a large part of our gallery for the Culture Crawl. All have been taught by Mark Johnsen, and have been involved with Mark and his partner’s (SJ) project called Patio Press. A pandemic creation on Mark and SJ’s patio.

Andrew Pommier was one of the first artist who had did a label for us. We have become great friends, and Andrew continues to be involved in Another Beer Co’s creative group and marketing.

Details below on each Artist involved.

Open to the public for viewing:

Saturday And Sunday 11am - 5pm October 15, 16 2022

Richard Brittain - Darkland Press.

I am an artist working and living in Vancouver, BC, on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-Waututh nations. I was born in the Northern part of what is currently called British Columbia and spent my teenage years on Vancouver Island. I have trained in woodworking and commercial printing, both of which influence my artistic practice. I hold a Batchelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design with a focus on print media, although I am also interested in collage, illustration, sculpture and sound.

A primary focus of my practice is exploring the complex and often fraught relationship we, as a species, have with the Earth. I find inspiration in the shapes, textures and patterns that exist within nature. Drawing on these, I seek to imagine new narratives in which humans embrace our place as part of the natural world, just as the natural world is an integral part of ourselves.

Alexis valgardsson.

I grew up in, “the land of living skies,” - their home in the prairies before moving west to create and experiment at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, where they hold their Bachelor of Fine Arts. They are an Illustrator and Printmaker with a fascination

for the natural world, often creating work that explores the idea of time, emotion, and memory through mark making and colour. Outside of the print studio you can find her on scenic walks in nature, running trails, or sitting in a nearby cafe sipping tea while reading a new book.
